A Lokean Devotional Vignette
“I don’t feel like doing anything,” I confess.
“You are wound too tightly. You need to unwind, darling,” Loki says in answer.

“You do not know to rest for pleasure, and you believe you must work for it instead of sinking down into your senses and enjoying them,” Loki says.

“I want a life where I sleep, eat, drink, and play as I need to, and I work because I like to,” I tell him wistfully, daydreaming.
“You already have that, Love. Just listen to your body and your heart as they speak to you,” Loki says.

“I am really just pushing myself.”
“Why?” he asks, knowingly.
“For change. I think I need change.”
“Rest is part of new birth, darling,” Loki reminds.

“I’m tired and a little weary,” I mumble to Loki.
“I’m glad that you feel safe enough with me to tell me.

Loki reminds me.

“Go to sleep.” His words aren’t a request but a promise.
“Just let me finish this.”
Loki moves closer to me and my body warms.
“I’m letting you rest, dear heart. Rest.”

rest my body.
head wilts back into soft grass,
my hand stills.
I breathe.
The earth carries me
as my wings lift.
