smoke blanket
holding
peppered stars,
love warmed
fire wisdom
between my palms
smoke blanket
holding
peppered stars,
love warmed
fire wisdom
between my palms
I feel afraid when I receive gifts
but my everyday is a gift.
unbearable
how sweet inhaling and exhaling is
how light plays on my skin.
pine and peppermint
scenting the air.
I have no choice
but to open
lay out
adorned
glowing.
earth between toes
fruit juice on my fingers
my cage opened
rust dust
into branch
sky-touched
wind, mouth wide,
filled with pine needles and seeds
sun, a crown
the clouds
dip golden
my wingtips feel everything
antennae listening
and trees that tell tall tales at night
in the daylight, truth.
His eyes held city lights
windows biting
warm glow
static white snare
drumming
inside me
His teeth
white-coated pills
Love best swallowed.
Flame rolls over me
from shoulder
to hip
I fold
concave against the cold past
Green water
lapping at my legs
I bend
fingertips dip into
river
heart never leaves here
body memorized it
when she was six
couldn’t swim
