shadow of a bird
cast over my heart
and I knew it could steal it
and never drop me
shadow of a bird
cast over my heart
and I knew it could steal it
and never drop me
bats flew from
my tear ducts
a look withers,
branch-fallen
the raven
blended
into shadow-sweep
my eye became winged
Bat flits
Nature’s Gothica unwrapped
wings outspanned
shadow’s friend
Fangs sunk deep,
I didn’t know they’d burn,
Softening pulse
like chocolate after sex
Sunday mornings skipping church
Relief beneath covers warmed by breath and skin.
Leave me hollowed out and craving.
Wishing for before we met
and before it breaks.
