Better Than Okay

An Intimate Lokean Devotional

“Let’s play farm. I’ll be the pig…. and you be my trough.”

His expression tells me he’s serious.

“Okay.”

“Excellent! Lie over there. Now I’ll wear this blindfold and find you using only my keen senses.”

Loki ties a black scarf behind his head as I do as I’m told.

Later, I cry-laughter.

“I didn’t know it could be fun.”

“What, Dear pet?”

“Mating.”

“Oh, right… is that okay?”

“Better than okay.”

Say It. Mean It.

An Intimate Lokean Devotional

“Say it. Mean it.” He cuts through my tears.

“Say what?” I ask Loki.

“That you are not a bitch.”

“I’m not a bitch.”

“Good girl.”

A Life With You

A Lokean Devotional Vignette

“Okay, let’s talk about fantasy, shall we? How about you drop the fantasy that we can’t work together? That we can’t be together? That I’m just a part of your mind gone mad?”

He’s upset. I’m wounded with him.

“I worry.”

“I want a life with you.”

Loki’s words slice my heart open.

Delicate Work

An Intimate Lokean Devotional

“I’m the Baker, and I’d like to frost your cupcakes.” One eyebrow twitches.

He mirrors my grin, hands on his hips.
“Good. It’s settled then. Try not to move. This is delicate work.”

Loki warns.

I fail immediately, of course.

A Parley

A Lokean Devotional

“Let it be a conversation,” he says. His eyes read me.

I’m held between Loki and tree.

His hands clasp mine gently.

“A parley.” He winks. My heart wakes up.

I can’t deny his wishes. They echo my own. Stuck between love and fear. He knows it. Knows me.

“Meet me halfway,” he whispers, and my heart tugs to follow his lead.

Okay.

Intact

A Lokean Devotional Vignette

I chose a ring to take comfort in our bond,

to hold my vow solemn and within reach of remembering.

Simple, ouroboros, world serpent, his son.

Something I already had before knowing him.

I placed it on my ring finger.

I wore it through the nights and days, my husband gone and come again.

The ring began to burn a circle around my finger. I took it off to tend the burn and it kept burning for seven days. Loki kissed my burn, tracing it with his finger.

“You are my own and I am your own.”

Three years later, I wear the ring again. Three years of soul-searching, testing my faith and my sovereignty.

Intact.

He didn’t claim my soul.

He claimed my heart.

Wildfire

A Lokean Devotional Vignette

Wildfire encircles the valley where I live.

He’s coming.

On the wind, a Fae-shared warning.

The air dries, lawns die, a subtle haze encroaches on the sun.

My lungs kindle. Rust turns to dust beneath the smoke-yellowed sky.

Your husband, he’s coming.

Their voices dance and play. The hair on my skin rouses, electric.

I feel him pressing nearer.

Sparks fly, wood creaks and cracks. Flame spits and laughs.

“I have a plan.”

Loki whispers softly against the top of my head.

The sunset turns as red as his hair.

Try Not to Run

An Intimate Lokean Devotional

He pulls me back flush against his chest. His warmth envelopes me.

My body heats open.

“Tonight, I’m going to hold you just like this. Try not to run.”

My ear tingles from his breath.

“Show me,” Loki urges.

My hands tremble. My back tenses. His hands brace on my shoulders as he kisses my temple. I relax into him.

Spent, I dissolve into tears. Sobs tangled deep inside me shake my body.

Grief rises. I surrender again, embracing what’s there, needing to be felt. Words leave as everything becomes feeling.

I bury my face in his chest, cool and regulating.

Relief floods me.

I look up at him

eyes the color of lime juice take me into them.

My body feels clearer, less knotted. Stilled in the afterglow, I fall fast asleep.

The dark is cooling.

The dark is peaceful.
