swirling light
through tree arms
laughter in the wind
swirling light
through tree arms
laughter in the wind
maple drench
tree carameled
sapping
sun and root love
dusk marked
sun needles
a shimmer in
my step
A Lokean Devotional Vignette
“Vultures remove parasites by spreading their wings in the sun.”
Loki says, his chin resting on my head as we watch the sunrise together.
“The sunlight helps them. Let me be your sun.”
sun-stoked
seeding pearls
in soil
sun’s heat
my body
drinks you in
gold
silk sun
flower
sigh open
shadows spill
over
salt wet skin
The tiger sun bit into my petals,
burning them like blooming wasn’t work.
I turned inward,
pink with embarrassment
for having been outside too long.
Tending my root and scent,
twirling bright leaves,
distraction,
out from under big cat’s eye,
I crept along the twining fence.
live-fire pressed into me
my ribs catch the sun
opening my spine
to it
heat moving
